From on duty to paid.
Go on duty
Flip the switch when you’re available. While on duty, the app shares your location so nearby requests reach you.
Accept a request
You see the reason and how far away the driver is. Several officers may be offered it; the first to accept gets it.
Drive to them
Navigate with Google Maps, call the driver if needed, and tap “Arrived” when you reach them.
Escort and finish
Escort them to safety, then complete the escort. The kilometres are measured by GPS from your arrival.
What you need to apply
Applications are reviewed by a person at Nkhape. You can’t go on duty until all four checks are complete, and each approval has a re-check date six months later.
- PSIRA registration in good standing.
- A firearm competency certificate and a valid licence to carry.
- Consent to a criminal background check.
- Your own roadworthy vehicle, which drivers will see before you arrive.
- Security experience: tell us about it when you apply.
- A smartphone with data and GPS (Android first, iPhone soon).
- A South African bank account for your weekly payouts.
Officer FAQ
Do I have to accept every request?
No. You choose which requests to accept. If you’re not available, go off duty and you won’t receive any.
When is my location shared?
Only while you’re on duty or on an escort. On Android a notification shows whenever sharing is on, and it stops as soon as you go off duty. Drivers only see your location during their escort.
How do payouts work?
Add your bank account in the app. Each week Nkhape reviews completed escorts and sends what you’re owed by bank transfer through Paystack. Nkhape never stores your full account number, only the last four digits.
What do drivers see about me?
Your name, your vehicle and your live location while you’re on the way and during the escort, and they can call you from the app.
